Beberapa kata kerja biasanya diikuti oleh preposisi sebelum objek kata kerja. ini disebut preposisi dependen dan diikuti oleh noun atau gerund (‘ing’ form).
Contoh:
- They’re waiting for a bus.
For adalah dependent preposition untuk ‘wait’
Kita dapat menggunakan preposisi lain dengan ‘wait’ – e.g. He waited at the bus stop – tetapi ‘for’ adalah ‘dependent preposition’.
